Dr. Don Martinson

Dr., Martinson is a native of Bessemer and attended the Bessemer Area Schools. He grew up on his parents Dairy and Beef farm and enjoyed riding horses as a kid. He was an active 4-H member in the Dairy, Beef, and Horse Projects. He went on to Michigan State University and received his Bachelors Degree in 1977, and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1979. Prior to returning home, he practiced in Coleman, MI and Chisholm, MN.

Dr. Martinson's primary interest is in surgery. "My primary motivation in life has been to direct my efforts into the operating room. "I feel the most competent there and most at home too. While I hope I don't ever forget how to practice medicine, I would much rather be in surgery." This desire is probably the reason the Range Animal Hospital has become an Advanced Care Hospital. As Dr., Martinson mastered old techniques, his desire to move forward resulted in more and more new techniques. Dr. Martinson is also the practice owner and has responsibilities in management.

While not at work, Dr. Martinson enjoys hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, camping, woodworking, and electronics. Not to mention his dog "Jack,".

Jack Frost

Jack's official job at the Range Animal Hospital is the "greeter." He likes to meet all of the patients as they arrive, and to let them know that going to the veterinarian is not really that bad. He is a 9 year old yellow lab and he calls Dr. Martinson his Master. Jack thinks he has a great life. He says, "I hope all dogs have a master that takes them to work every day to play with other dogs."

Jack is also the Blood Donor at The Range Animal Hospital. He is of the universal donor type, and his blood has saved many dogs lives. In his lifetime he has donated 16 units. Not a small accomplishment for a dog!
