I'm currently a graduate student working on a degree in Guidance and School Counseling.  I need to do a presentation on the organization, mangement and evaluation of a guidance program. The focus of my part of the presentation is on the function and role of the High School Counselor as well as the philosophy of high school guidance. Can you provide me with any information or insight on these subjects?

My journal article, “A Fable: Seven Counselors and ‘the Plan’”  is about the role of the counselor.  You can read it from my web page.  A less fanciful discussion of the role of the school counselor is available on the American School Counselor web page.

I highly recommend Comprehensive Guidance Programs That Work - II, by Norman C. Gysbers, Ph.D. who is considered by many to have created comprehensive school guidance.  Dr. Gysbers was kind enough to write to me and comment positively about the Seven Counselors article, so I'd guess that it was on the money.

Good luck with your project.
