I think the biggie is violence and the attitudes in society and in the schools that breed violence and a general devaluation of human beings.  This suggests many sub-issues:  conflict resolution, peer counseling, date rape, weapon safety, the culture of not ratting out one's peers to adults, parent involvement, the hands-off approach to 'values education', diversity awareness/sensitivity ...
