54-40 or Fight
1. Cut the pieces.

From background fabric (white) cut the following:
- 2 1/2 X 2 1/2 inch square--cut 8. These are your A squares.
- You'll need 4 C triangles. This is going to be a little difficult because it isn't quite an equilateral triangle. There are a few possible ways to do this:
- Cut a template and use it. The triangles should be 4 X 4 1/2 X 4 1/2 inches; add a 1/4 inch seam allowance all around and you'll have it.
- Instead of one C triangle, make 2 B triangles (see directions for cutting long rectangles) and join to make the C triangle. This will, however, give you a 6-point join.
- Cut a strip of fabric 4 7/8 inches wide. Mark the bottom of the strip every 4 7/8 inches. Take out your handy protractor :) and use it to mark a series of triangles with the bottom angles at 63.5 degrees (the top angle, the "peak" of the triangle, is 53 degrees). As illustrated below.
From blue fabric, cut:
- 2 1/2 X 2 1/2 inch square--cut 8. These are your A squares.
From pink fabric, cut:
- 5 1/4 X 2 5/8 inch rectangles--cut 4, then cut each diagonally to make 2 triangles. These are your B triangles.
IMPORTANT: Please note that these triangles are NOT reversible. 2 of the rectangles should be cut in one direction, and the other 2 in the opposite direction, as illustrated below. You'll end up with 4 rectangles of one sort and 4 of the other.
From yellow fabric, cut:
- 2 1/2 X 2 1/2 inch square--cut 2. These are your A squares.
From green fabric, cut:
- 2 1/2 X 2 1/2 inch square--cut 2. These are your A squares.
2. Sew together the squares.
Sew the blue and white squares together, making 4 of these units:

Then, sew the green and yellow squares together to make 1 similar unit.
3. Sew the B and C triangles together.

You'll be making 4 of these units.
4. Sew the units into strips.
4. Sew the stips together to make the block.
